Here’s what to keep in mind and what’s a good idea to bring or leave at home. This is an arid desert region with two extremes, extremely hot (Summer temps can exceed 120 F) and very cold (Winter temps can drop to 20F.) We DO have some pleasant weather at times, but for the most part, you should always be prepared for extremes depending on the season of your visit.
Always bring extra water, sturdy hiking shoes or boots, layered clothing, a hat, camera, and food.
Groups - Are you a group leader or educator? Bringing groups out to the site can be a great deal of fun and an awesome learning experience. In order for that to happen, we do need to have notice so preparations can be made prior to your arrival.
Use our activity form to setup a visit date for your group, PDF and Word versions are also available on the upper righthand side of this page.
Individuals or small groups - The Calico Mountains Archaeological Site tours are self-guided, please stop at the Visitor's Center for an orientation, maps, guides and souvenirs.
Please remember, there is no collecting of any material from the site.
